We Need Your Help
Here at Film News Briefs, we really enjoy providing you with your morning news. We would like to keep doing it for a long time to come, but to do that, we need to build our subscriber base up to 20,000. We're going to keep banging the drum on this, because we need to step it up even more. Please keep asking as many friends, colleagues and co-workers as possible to sign up for the daily newsletter (which they can do by going here). We really need to grow and, if we want to stay around, we need to do it quickly. Thanks again for your help. Now, on with the news.
Projects Announced
An Irish Bunch Is All Set To Be In “Stitches”

Fantastic Films and MPI Media Group along with the Irish Film Board have green lit the indie horror-comedy, “Stitches,” written and to be directed by Conor McMahon. Ross Noble and Tommy Knight star in the macabre tale of Richard “Stitches” Grindle, a jaded workaday kids’ birthday clown, whose one-liners are witty in a way that’s just not for kids. Stitches falls victim to a fatal party mishap at the hands of a group of particularly nasty children. Years later, the group of now teenagers attend a party at which Stitches is the uninvited guest of honor, returning to avenge his untimely death.

Business/Legal News
Well, That’s A Stunner: Ratner’s Out As Oscar Producer

It has been a rough 48 hours for Brett Ratner, and according to multiple sources, it’s about to get even rougher. Ratner has stepped down as producer of the 84th annual Academy Awards, this just hours after AMPAS president Tom Sherak gave him a vote of confidence. “I called Tom Sherak this morning and resigned as a producer of the 84th Academy Awards telecast,” Ratner said in a statement. “Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents.” And, in other news, people with good taste responded with a massive sigh of relief.

Man Sues Lionsgate For Appropriating His Likeness In “The Next Three Days”

Many people would — and some have probably tried to — sell their own mothers in order to get into a major motion picture. Not Bilal Ahmed. The Oregon resident filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate Entertainment in Los Angeles Superior Court last week, alleging that his image was used without authorization in the 2010 Russell Crowe film “The Next Three Days.” Ahmed claims that his appearance in the movie has hampered his future prospects for employment — and, perhaps even worse, made him change his hairstyle.
