To Our Readers
Thanks for taking part in our recent survey. It's clear you have a lot to say about what we're doing, and that you have a great desire for changes in our coverage. Because you demanded it, you will see an increase in our coverage of box office and financing news, festivals, European and Asian film, web news and digital services in 2012. Additionally, there is an increased demand for monthly features, like our "Filmmakers to Watch" series, as well as "Writers" and "Producers" to watch. As such, and because of our need to expand and cover our resulting expenses, we've decided that come January we will move to a $4.99/month subscription price. Also, during the course of the year we will begin rolling out the additional monthly features for only $1.99 per month. Thanks again for your loyal readership and we look forward to beginning a new and improved FNB in 2012!

Business/Legal News
So, That Lawsuit Against Kurt Sutter and "SOA"? It's Done, Son.

FX and “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter have prevailed in a lawsuit filed by an ex-Hell’s Angel biker who claimed the idea for the hit drama series was stolen. Chuck Zito sued FX for $5 million in June 2010 claiming he had developed a show called “Nomads” (later “The Wild Angels”) and had agents at ICM set up a pitch meeting in 2004 with FX chief John Landgraf, during which Zito says he discussed ideas for a show about a motorcycle club. FX passed on the project but later developed Sutter’s “Sons,” which ICM packaged and which recently concluded its 4th season as a big hit for the network. Today a Los Angeles Superior Court judge agreed, ruling on summary judgment that “Sons” was independently created and Zito doesn’t have a case.

Amazon Studios Pairs Three Projects With Producers

A trio of big name producers Denise Di Novi, Bill Gerber and Edward Saxon have signed on to produce scripts uploaded to Amazon’s site, the company announced on Thursday.  Amazon Studios launched in November 2010 as a new media film company that relied heavily on crowd sourcing. Through the web service, filmmakers and screenwriters submit their full-length movies and scripts, which are then voted on by visitors. The company the helps get the movies that receive the most enthusiastic responses made through a first-look deal with Warner Bros. Di Novi will produce “Touching Blue.”  Written by Scott Mullen, the script is about a woman who can track people based on what they’ve touched — but who feels intense pain when someone touches her. She uses her gift to help the FBI track a serial killer. Gerber is attached to produce “Original Soldiers,” which is the story of a strike force that has to save the day when the humans’ droid defense force is disabled.  Saxon is producing “Children of Others” by Barrington Smith-Seetachit. It’s the story of a woman who finds out that her unborn child may be the first wave of an alien invasion. According to the release,  Smith-Seetachit  is moving forward with a new draft of her script.
