"Generally speaking, actors are not writers . . If you start opposing the writer, you lose any sense of discipline, and half the time you're opposed because you aren't actually prepared to face the problem . . I mean, if you've taken the part because the writing is good, then it's your business to find a way to play it, not change it because it suits your whim. To me, there's nothing to take the place of good dramatic writing. Nothing."
