"Sid Powell of Powder Springs is one of four writers from around the country to be named as finalists in the Gospel Music Channel's first-ever Faith and Family Screenplay Competition, as part of the annual American Black Film Festival in Miami.

There were a total of 131 entries.

Powell, 34, was recognized for her screenplay, 'Somebody's Child.' The final screenplays were judged by entertainment industry professionals and the grand prize winner was announced July 9 at the ABFF's closing night Honors Ceremony at The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater.

The grand prize of $5,000 was awarded to David Martyn Conley of St. Louis for 'Raising Izzie.' His acting credits include 'Army Wives' and 'Drop Dead Diva.'"
