Roanna Gonsalves' script nominated for Australian Writers Guild Award

Starting her career as a reporter in Mumbai, Ms Gonsalves has moved into fiction, stage plays and writing radio documentaries for broadcast.

Inspired by the 2009 attacks on Indian students in Sydney and Melbourne, she wrote a short story to represent all voices involved in the attacks.

“The voices of the students and Indian Australians were missing,” she said.

Continuing to explore the themes of Indian students in Australia, one of Ms Gonsalves’ recent works, Yet to Ascertain the Nature of the Crime, is a script written in collaboration with three other writers.

Brought to life in a theatre performance, Ms Gonsalves said it was wonderful to see words come alive.
