Writer Peter Duncan is raking in a Guild gong

The series is loosely based on the life of lawyer Charles Waterstreet, as is the episode which earned Duncan his AWGIE nomination. In episode five, Cleaver defends a doctor, played by actor Sam Neill, on charges of bestiality.

“What I’m proud of is the fact that there’s a credibility and a heart to the story, despite its shocking content,” he said.

“People like to be entertained and I think they are getting more used to drama, particularly where it’s fast and smart and challenging. We need to be part of that tide.”

The Australian Writers Guild awards was presented at Doltone House Friday, September 23.
